The purpose of this website is to discuss the psychology of online dating. In the past few years, Location-Based Real-Time Dating (LBRTD) apps are becoming increasingly more popular with 22% of young adults using the apps in 2016 compared to just 5% in 2013. Despite this growth in popularity, worldwide, traditional online dating websites still tend to have higher rates of users than LBRTD apps (31% and 6% respectively) (March, Grieve, Marrington, & Jonason, 2017). With this growing popularity, research is being conducted around the world to try and gain a more well rounded understanding of the positive implications and potential ramifications for this new form of dating. This website will seek to explore some of the available research in the following topics: gender difference in general use, commitment, risks, deception, and online vs offline dating.
